The most-recognized cardiovascular brand in the United States is Norvasc. About 8.5% of physicians recognized this brand the most in a survey conducted by Brand Institute Inc. in fourth-quarter 2005. Norvasc is composed of amlodipine and is indicated for treating hypertension, chronic stable angina, and confirmed or suspected vasospastic angina. Initially approved in July 1992, Norvasc is marketed by Pfizer Inc. (pfizer.com).
Cardizem is the second most-recognized cardiovascular brand in the United States. About 5.2% of physicians recognize this brand the most. Cardizem is indicated for temporary control of rapid ventricular rate in atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter, the management of chronic stable angina, the treatment of chronic stable angina and angina due to coronary artery spasm, maintenance heart-rate control in patients with atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter for up to 24 hours, the treatment of hypertension, and the rapid conversion of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardias to sinus rhythm. The third most-recognized cardiovascular brand in the United States is Coreg. About 5% of physicians recognize this brand the most. Coreg is indicated for the treatment of mild-to-moderate congestive heart failure in children 1 month old to 18 years old, the treatment of mild-to-severe heart failure or ischemic or cardiomyopathic origin, the essential hypertension, the treatment of severe heart failure, and to reduce cardiovascular mortality. Coreg contains carvedilol and initially was approved by FDA in September 1995. The product is marketed by GlaxoSmithKline (gsk.com).
