The most- recognized central nervous system brand in North America is Neurontin. The brand was most recognized by 9.3% of physicians in a survey conducted by Brand Institute Inc. in the second quarter of 2006. Neurontin, composed of gabapentin, is market by Pfizer Inc. (Pfizer.com) and was originally approved FDA in December 1993. Neurontin is approved for the management of postherpectic neuralgia and for the treatment of partial seizures in adults and children.
Dilantin is the second most recognized central nervous system brand in North America. About 6.5% of physicians recognized this brand the most. Pfizer markets Dilantin. Composed of phenytoin, the drug was originally approved by FDA in February 1979.Dilantin is indicated for the control of tonic- clonic and psychomotor seizures.
The third most- recognized central nervous system brand is Aricept. About 4.9 of physicians recognized this brand the most. Aricept is marketed by Pfizer. Composed of donepezil, Aricept was originally approved in November 1996. The product is indicated for the treatment of mild-to-moderate dementia of the Alzheimer’s type.
The most – recognized central nervous system brand in Europe is Valium. The brand was most recognized by 5.5% of physicians. Marketed by Roche (roche.com), Valium contains diazepam, which is mainly used to treat anxiety, insomnia, and symptoms of acute alcohol or opiate withdrawal.
Prozac is the second most –recognized central Nervous system brand in Europe. About 3.9% of physicians recognized the brand the most. Prozac, first marketed by Eli Lilly and Co. (Lilly.com), is composed of fluoxetine and was approved in 1986 in Belgium. Generic Prozac is indicated for the treatment of symptoms of major depression and obsessive-compulsive disorders.
The third most-recognized central nervous system brand in Europe is Aropax. About 2.9% of physicians recognized this brand the most. Aropax is composed of paroxetine and is marketed by Glaxosmithkline (gsk.com). The product is indicated for the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders.
