CONNECTICS' EVOCLIN APPROVED BY FDA FOR TREATMENT OF ACNE VULGARIS
The Food and Drug Administration approved Connectics Corp.'s pharma name Evoclin (clindamycin) Foam 1% for the treatment of acne vulgaris. Evoclin, formerly known as Actiza, is Connectics' first product approved for use in the acne market.
"The novel VersaFoam formulation . . . has the added advantage of being a once-a-day therapy that leaves minimal residue, dissolves rapidly upon contact with skin and is easy to apply," said Dr. Alan Shalita, an Evoclin study investigator.
Evoclin will be available in the fourth quarter of 2004 in 50 g and 100 g trade unit sizes, according to a press release. The pharmaceutical brand is contraindicated in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to preparations containing clindamycin or lincomycin, a history of regional enteritis or ulcerative colitis or a history of antibiotic-associated colitis.
Separately, Connectics announced that the FDA accepted a New Drug Application for the potential acne treatment, Velac (clindamycin 1%/tretinoin 0.025%) as of Aug. 23. The FDA's user fee goal date is June 25, 2005.
